What is the best material to use for sample boards?will poster board work if it is primed?would like to make a portfolio of finishes.

My two favorites are architect vellum and poster board the architect vellum can be rolled up and is as thin as paper well really a little thicker. I love to use this for larger display type items block walls or larger samples or mural samples. Poster board primed and painted like the base I'll do on the wall will make the exactly same sample that will match the wall as if you were painting drywall. You can carry 50 to 70 of these with no trouble try that with drywall. In fact we use them in our classes we usually seal them with shellac then prime to our base color. They work great and are cheap.

Hiding Pencil Lines

I recently tried sponge painting shadow stripes .I drew the lines with a pencil and taped to the outside of the lines;handcleaner took some of the lines out. But some still show.is there a better way?

You might want to try using chalk next time. Chalk will wash off with water, and will not leave any residue or marks on the wall. Too remove the pencil lines try using a regular pencil eraser, I do it all the time and follow up with some water and a little bit of dish detergent. This technique has always worked the best for me!

I use colored pencils (near the same color as background) & watercolor pencils. Light touch. Both will blend with paint.

Try using a #2 hard pencil and just mark a dot at the location and use the non-crape type tape it doesn't pull out of shape like the crape type so you will not have to mark the whole line.

Diamond Patterns

First start by locating the center of the room. Take a caulk line and snap a line from alternate

corners to form an X across the floor, then decide on how wide you want them and measure

half the distance on each side of the X for the first one then just measure the width from the

first set of lines pull your caulk line across the markings and snap the lines, you can then just mask them alternately as you paint them. Hope this helps.
